Last night we had the opportunity and great pleasure to visit and use a "free" Sun Country Highway charging station located in Hamilton at the York Parkade on Level 1B.
We had tickets to the Bryan Adams concert playing at FirstOntario Centre so we made a point to drive one of our EV Life Magazine smart EDs. This allowed us to check out the Sun Country Highway chargers at the York Parkade.
It was a very cold evening, about -24C. Driving from Oakville using full cabin heat could have made this a stretch for us or else a very cold trip back if we weren't able to get a charge before returning. So we were delighted that these charging stations were located in a public parking garage. And even more so when we got there and found the parking spots open so we could charge up and set the car's cabin pre-heater for our scheduled departure time.
There were two well-placed chargers and both were available when we arrived. There is also a third regular parking space from which you could reach one of the two chargers. This allows for more flexibility in the event you are desperate for a charge and are able to share the closer charging station.
Bryan Adams' show was electrifying, too. The sound was expertly mixed and the music, well, was music to our ears. After the show we returned to find a Nissan Leaf in the spot next to ours using the other charging station.
It is good to know there is an active community of EV owners that take advance of these charging stations. These were the first Electric Vehicle charging stations located in downtown Hamilton. They enable electric vehicle owners to plug in for free, which is a bonus although you do have to pay to park in the garage.
We understand that more charging spots are planned and it will be great to see the continued expansion of charging infrastructure to support more EV drivers in the future.
