Hate crowded GO station parking lots or having to head out to work in the dark just to get a spot that’s closer than a kilometer from the platform? Well, pull out your smartphone and check your ChargePoint app to see if the GO station near you has an EV plug. It will also tell you if it’s working and available for use.
I found that the lot at the GO station in Oakville has two plugs, so I headed over one morning when I had to go to Toronto after the morning rush. What did I find? Two unused prime spots on the ground level of the parking garage. A quick swipe of my ChargePoint card, my smart ED was plugged in and I was ready to get on the train.
No fuss, very convenient, only $2.50 for the charging session in the best spot in the garage and the app even notifies you when your car is finished charging. What a bargain.
Now, I just hope other EV drivers don’t find these prime parking spots :-)
Lately, I've been wondering what is the right protocol for me to use at public chargers. I may not always be right there to unplug once the car is fully charged and move it out of the way for someone else. And it's bugging me.
The ChargePoint app allows you to start and finish your charge remotely. I would also use an EV card on your dashboard to allow someone to call you if they would like you to end the session so they can use the charger.
