Here’s a benefit I hadn’t anticipated about driving an EV.
Today it was cold … freezing … way below freezing, really. The temperature was -22 C with the wind making it feel like -34 C when I decided I had to head out to IKEA. I figured no one would be crazy enough to be out shopping in such frigid weather, so imagine my surprise when the parking lot was already jammed and it wasn’t even noon yet.
Luckily, IKEA is one of those companies that provides a little benefit for those who are trying to reduce their impact on the environment, and I was able to get a prime parking spot close to the door. I knew there was no charging station here and I didn’t need one, but the proximity to the entrance on a cold day was definitely a bonus. The ICE driver who was hoping to get the spot as I was leaving was not happy to see the "reserved" sign.
With rebates on cars and chargers, the ability to use the HOV lanes here in Ontario even if you’re the only one in the car and other benefits like preferred parking, it’s a great time to consider an EV.
