I was asked recently what it was like to ride a smart e-bike. So I thought I would take a few minutes and write about it.
Let me start being just throwing out a few words that describe the overall experience. Fantastic, amazing, exhilarating, enjoyable, liberating, freedom.
The smart e-bike is like no other. The thoughtful design and space-age construction make this bike stand out from the rest. It is as flexible as it is powerful. And it is fun to ride.
When you first ride the smart e-bike you will notice that it reacts differently than other bikes and other e-bikes.
Pedelecs all use a sensor that tells the motor when to start delivering power, but not all sensors are mounted in the same place. The smart e-bike has a pedal sensor in the pedal-crank bearing that measures the force you are exerting and determines how much propulsion power will be provided by the electric motor depending on the power level you set. When you stop pedalling, the electric motor switches off.
The power assist feels like you have been given a push, or have a strong wind at your back. The BionX system is actually amplifying your pedalling. The pedal sensor in the pedal-crank bearing allows this bike to deliver considerable torque when you first start pedalling and at low speeds. This allows you to easily manoeuvre though traffic with control and confidence.
When travelling up an incline, such as a bridge or overpass, you can put the bike into third gear, pedal easily and the bike will take you effortlessly to the top. This is counter-intuitive for most people and takes getting used to. This same technique can be used to ride into headwinds with ease.
Gone are the days when you have to shift-down and power pedal to go up hills or against the wind. :-)
The smart e-bike is solid, reliable and ready to take you where you need to go.
